We are proud to announce that the Commercial Negotiation Competition is sponsored by Allen & Overy again this year. In reality most disputes are settled out of court and therefore the ability to negotiate is paramount for legal careers. We launched the competition because we feel it is a great way for students to get an insight into the kind of issues solicitors face in reality. Successful negotiation utilises a range of skills, such as teamwork, flexibility and clear communication, which are beneficial for any career path.
The competition, taking place across the autumn and spring terms, will give you the opportunity to develop your negotiation skills. Working in pairs, you will receive a common set of facts as well as confidential information available only to your team. You will then negotiate with the other team in order to reach the best outcome on behalf of your client. You will be judged against the following criteria: planning; flexibility; style; teamwork; ethics and outcome. Representatives from Allen & Overy LLP will be judging the final of the competition.
